Having a lazy Sunday with a few friends we decided to get some nibbles at Saramago with our drinks.
We ordered the Mezze platter and a pizza between three which was more than enough! The menu is vegan which isn’t really my thing as I love some meat and dairy but the food was delicious and the courgette, cherry tomato, roast garlic and pine nut pizza didn’t suffer too much for the lack of cheese. Plus I didn’t feel too guilty after scoffing all the food.
The home made breads were lovely and fresh and they had it right with large amount of balsamic vinegar with the olive oil for dipping. I hate it when they only give you a drop of the stuff. The mezze consisted of cannellini and roast garlic houmous, baba ghanoush, cauliflower with salsa verde, marinated olives, wild mushroom and black-eyed bean salad, griddled leeks and romesco sauce, dolmades and rocket and toasted seed salad. I admit I didn’t eat the olives as they are one of a tiny number of things I am not a fan of. Everything else was scrummy. Although I think the cauliflower and the leeks may have been a little better warm.
The staff were really nice but sadly missed our order initially so we waited ages to be told that it never went to the kitchen. They kindly gave us a very generous discount for the mix up so thumbs up!
Price (without the discount) Pizza £9 and Mezze platter £10.50. Great price!
